Baby steps...

1/26 - With my Pro-Club membership back I hit the pool for the first time in 3 years. 36 * 25 yards. Better than nothing...

2/4 - 5 miles of Hiking up to artist point in Mt. Baker. Realized how out of shape I have become

2/5 - 3 miles running. A rare Seattle sunset when you actually see the sun go down. Kind of a tropical sunset.

2/7 - 40 * 25 yards, 3 miles running in the night

2/9 - 7 miles. Longest run both in terms of distance and time since September...

2/10 - 40 * 25 yards

2/11 - 10 miles: Even though I am so out of shape my body just knew how to run... It did not feel like exercise more like relaxation. That's why this running thing works for me.

Total miles run = 20
Total yards swam = 2000 yards

Chicago and running goals!

I signed up for the Chicago marathon! After seeing the notification that 30,000/45,000 slots were filled up in the first 36 hours I had to pull the trigger!

I don't know if I will end up being able to run it.

That got me to wonder what running goals I have left to accomplish in this life. The list I came up with:
  1. Run 3 more marathons and get to marathon #25
  2. Run all the marathon majors - so I have to run Chicago, London and Berlin
  3. Run the Comrades Ultra-marathon in South Africa
  4. Run the Pike's Peak marathon!
  5. Pseudo-goal: Run a sub-3 marathon. I probably won't count this as a goal. I am capable of running a sub-3 marathon but I don't think the stars will align and I'll put in the work for it. 3:09 is a pretty respectable time. Most of humanity won't ever run a marathon that fast so it's good enough.
So I am almost "done" :)

I went ahead and ordered my race video and pics from the Paris Marathon just now. The realization set in that I might never run another race like that. Got to capture the "moment"! I also pinned a print out of my race certificate in my office - motivation?

My first conference as a speaker

As a kid I'd have horrid experiences with public speaking. I'd go up to the stage, be self-conscious, read from notes, mumble and in general and have a horrid experience.

It's kind of ironic that I'm now voluntarily signing up to present, talk and get in front of people for work. Today was my first experience as a speaker in a conference. Mike, big room, people from all over the country ... My speaker scores have been pretty good so far. The first of many more experiences as a speaker?

The running angle: This was a talk at TechReady. The last time I was scheduled to speak at TechReady I got hit by a car. After that my running went downhill...
